World Sleep Day: Make Sleep Health a Priority

World Sleep Day: March 14, 2025

Friday, March 14 is World Sleep Day, and in recognition of this event, members of the Living With Narcolepsy in Australia Facebook Group participated in this awareness opportunity by answering five questions based on the theme “Make Sleep Health a Priority.”

World Sleep Society is a nonprofit, professional membership organization dedicated to advancing sleep health worldwide. To accomplish this mission, World Sleep Society manages programs that engage the global community of sleep physicians, researchers, and professionals as well the public. Members of the public can help celebrate World Sleep Day by organising local sleep health awareness activities. This is my second year of being a World Sleep Day delegate, and I welcome this opportunity to raise sleep health awareness, from the perspective of what ‘making sleep health a priority’ is like for people who live with narcolepsy.

My name is Di Spillane and I am Living With Narcolepsy (N1) in Australia. Despite having lived with this disorder since childhood, I wasn't diagnosed with narcolepsy + cataplexy (N1) until late in life at the age of 49. Every person has their own personal journey, this website is where I will share my story about living with narcolepsy & cataplexy, and my long journey to receiving a diagnosis. I will share information and tips for managing day to day life in an effort to help others who live with narcolepsy, help those who suspect that they might have a sleep disorder by providing information about my experiences, and help the narcolepsy community by advocating, educating, and raising public awareness of this debilitating rare sleep disorder.
